Vandalism

I am seriously upset. The last few weeks have been a bit of a nightmare. It started with yobbos catapulting my greenhouse and shed with ball bearings and this week the whole place has been vandalised probably by the same no-gooders. What can you do to protect yourself against these criminals. I am feeling quite at risk now and don't want to be down on the plot on my own. My allotment is one of the most vulnerable as it is very near the perimeter fence and there is not a lot of tree or bramble protection. My fear is not the greenhouse except that now the glass is unstable and therefore dangerous; but actually being the target of these despicable adolescents.

The police have been called but as there was no one injured and no real loss apart from damaged property; this is therefore about as low down on the list of priorities as it could possibly be. We are likely just to get a nice letter if that and there will not be any action. It is virtually impossible to find out who the culprits are and if they are found all that will happen is that they'll get a warning.

The weather was not all that good this morning and I almost didn't go down but I am pleased I did now as I saw for myself that there was no further damage to my plot. I now have to organise for the glass to be repaired, I notice no one is rushing to help me. This has annoyed me too. I may say something to June as I think there should be some assistance offered.

I hope I'll feel a bit more positive next week.

  1. Your best bet is to replace your glass panes with clear plastic panes, ideally the sort of stuff they have on bus shelters. Then so long as they are secured properly, short of a big lump of masonry being thrown at it you should be able to make your greenhouse vandal-proof.

You should be able to get this stuff cut to size at the same sort of place that you can get glass from. There is a place on Ballards Lane (or whatever its called near Whetstone) on the right hand side just after the N20 cafe, just ebfore the right hand turn that heads towards Frien Barnet, with B&Q on your left a bit further on
