Pricking out peppers

Following on the alliterative theme. This week I pricked out some pepper seedlings. Unfortunately some of the peppers had failed to germinate at all; cayenne and super habanero, others have not germinated all that well but Terry has given me some cayenne that he has grown and some others too. Worldbeater, a capsicum variety has germinated well and I shall pt up loads of them as the longer varieties have not germinated well at all.

Mel sowed some poppy seeds and I sowed all of the petunias but not all of them would fit in the heated propagator so I hope they will still germinate in the heated greenhouse, which is not quite as warm.

Some of my own seedlings have come up, those that I sowed two weeks ago in my own unheated greenhouse. some salvia and nicotiana, if the weather is not too cold I think some others may come up for next week and I will need to pot these up in about two weeks time.

On the plot, I managed to put in some red and ordinary brown onion sets. I may have made a terrible mistake and put them in in the same bed as last year, as I didn't seem to have white rot last year it may be alright , but it may turn out to be a disaster; only time will tell.

The weather is still rather cold so I am not rushing to put anything else in, the next few weeks will be very hectic what with the society stuff and my own things too. Easter will be here before we know it and tradition dictates putting in the potatoes then; however as it is so early I may delay for a week or so, perhaps til passover, which is a bit later this year.

The majority of the marigolds that I sowed last week have germinated but some, old seed, haven't. We didn't get any tagetes from the society but I have sown some, but they may not germinate, as this was old seed too. I have also sown pot marigolds , because I like them and one lot looks as if it might come to something.

Signing off for this week.
